Release of Otto René Rodriguez Llerena

Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba informs that Salvadoran national Otto René Rodríguez Llerena, who had been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the terrorist bombing of a hotel in Cuba in 1997, has served his sentence and, in accordance to the national legislation, has been released.

It is necessary to recall that, while Cuba enforces its laws and ensures that all terrorists are brought to justice, the United States continues to allow that violent acts and terrorist actions against Cuba be organized and financed from its territory and that masterminds and perpetrators of acts of terrorism enjoy impunity. Several of these individuals have lived freely and unpunished in Miami for decades. Moreover, some of them have passed away without being prosecuted, such as the cases of Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch.

The Cuban Government reiterates its commitment to fight terrorism, respect for human rights and the need for the international community to hold accountable those who promote those actions.
