Resounding victory of the Cuban people against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.

Geneva, October 31, 2024. With 189 votes in favor, 2 against, and 1 abstention, the United Nations General Assembly has once again —for the thirty-second consecutive year— adopted the resolution on the “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.” This marks another victory for the Cuban people in their fight to end this illegal and inhumane policy.

Once again, the international community has rallied behind Cuba in the struggle against the blockade. Over the two-day debate, its devastating impact on all areas of Cuba's life was highlighted, notably in terms of food, healthcare, education, industry, energy, and the economy. Additionally, the unprecedented tightening and extraterritorial implications of the blockade were condemned.

Cuba's unjustified inclusion in the list of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism, drawn up by the State Department, and its deterrent effects on Cuba's economic and financial relations with third countries were overwhelmingly rejected. This denunciation added to the one made in July this year by 123 States within the framework of the Human Rights Council.

Cuba expressed its gratitude for the support received from the international community, including solidarity movements and many Cubans living abroad who maintain ties with their homeland and mobilize to continue contributing to the country's economic and social development. Cuba reaffirmed that, despite the blockade, efforts will continue to achieve sustainable development and all possible social justice for the benefit of our noble and heroic people.
