Kingston, Jamaica, 1 May, 2020. Cuban diplomats acknowledged today in Jamaica the work of the healthcare personnel in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and highlighted the efforts of the working class for a better world.

Members of the Cuban state mission in the Jamaican territory recalled the memorable celebration in May 1, 2000, when the historic leader Fidel Castro delivered the concept of Revolution and called for unity, solidarity and altruism.

In the activity, the Cuban diplomatic staff praised the work of the more than 430 healthcare professionals who support the fight against the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, in every corner of the Jamaican geography.

Currently, Cuban healthcare workers serve in the four regions and 14 parishes of this Caribbean island and share their experience in the care for and treatment of patients suspected and infected with the COVID-19 disease.

Lead by Ambassador Inés Fors, the Cuban staff highlighted the current commitment in the midst of the impacts of the pandemic, which this year forced all to celebrate the International Workers' Day differently, without a parade and wearing surgical face masks.

Likewise, they rejected the strengthening of the economic blockade, its aggressiveness and the US Government’s campaign against international cooperation exercised by the Greatest Island in the Antilles.

At present, Cuban members of the health and education cooperation brigades provide their services in Jamaica, as a sign of more than four decades of solidarity and friendship between both nations.
