Good morning,
Esteemed comrades of the Frontline Socialist Party of Sri Lanka,
First, I would like to thank you for inviting me, as Ambassador of Cuba, to the 4th. National Convention of your Party, for the opportunity to personally meet you and to convey revolutionary greetings, with heartfelt congratulations.
I take the occasion, to fraternally and humbly express, reiterate, the gratitude of my government and people for your long-standing, firm and unconditional support, with diverse actions, in the struggle to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against Cuba.
In addition, for the exclusion of our country of the US List of States Sponsors of Terrorism, among many other progressive causes we have defended together, despite the geographical distance between our nations, always in solidarity.
Comrades, as you well know, Cuba is facing one of the most challenging situations in our history, with very critical economic conditions, caused by the most recently escalated aggression by the US government (the so-called “energetic blockade” or “oil blockade”).
The Cuban people is currently going through a very difficult and sensitive economic circumstance.
Without energy, every aspect in life is affected; food distribution, public health service, transportation and education, depend on fuel.
The purpose of this oil blockade is clear, to create a humanitarian crisis that might catalyze the collapse of the Revolution and try to force a regime change through it.
That situation threatens, dangerously, our national security and our survival, not only in terms of material restrictions, but also because of the real possibilities of a military intervention, like happened a couple of days ago, on February 25th.
We are conscious that you stand we us, and we highly appreciate it as Comrades, with the confidence that Cuban people is ready to resist until giving our lives, if necessary, to defend the achievements and principles of the Revolution.
The Cuban people will resist, we have a history of patriotic defense of the right to self-determination and of demanding the respect to our sovereignty.
We believe that our cause is just, noble, legitimate and deserve the support of the international community.
Thanks again Sri Lanka for your friendship and solidarity.
Cuba is not isolated.
Viva Cuba, Long live the Cuban Revolution.
