The Premier of Nevis and Opposition Leader of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Mark Brantley, denounced during the most recent congress of the Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) the energy blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. In his remarks, he emphasized that this policy constitutes an act of hostility aimed at suffocating the Island and breaking the resistance of its people.
Brantley explained that the restrictive measures have generated an energy crisis in Cuba, limiting access to fuel and directly affecting the daily lives of millions of citizens. He noted that this situation is the result of a deliberate strategy of economic pressure that undermines the sovereignty of the Caribbean nation.
The Caribbean leader recalled that Cuba has been a constant ally of the peoples of the region, providing support in areas such as health and education. In this regard, he affirmed that the aggression against the Greater of the Antilles also represents an attack on the tradition of cooperation and solidarity that characterizes the Caribbean.
Brantley further urged Caribbean governments and social movements to maintain a firm stance in support of Cuba. In his view, the defense of the Island is a moral and political duty that reaffirms Caribbean identity and the capacity of its peoples to confront external pressures together.
