Saint Lucia takes part at the V Meeting in Latin America of the "Bonn Challenge", in Havana.

The V Meeting in Latin America of the "Bonn Challenge" that was held last week in Havana, include the participation of Souraya Niles, Deputy Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Agriculture, Food Production, Fisheries and Rural Development, as well as Alfred Prosperous Deputy Chief Forest Officer. This important event was attended by Environment ministers and forestry authorities from Latin America and the Caribbean. They joined efforts to boost regional reforestation. The Bonn Challenge is the name of that initiative that began in 2011 under the umbrella of the International Union for the Preservation of Nature with a major objective: restoring 350 million hectares by 2030. At present, the initiative consists of 58 national and subnational commitments to restoring landscapes, equivalent to 170.43 million hectares. With a forest rate of 31 percent, Cuba has shown good results in its programs to adjust to climate change and mitigate its consequences. For two years, it has taken a government plan with that objective.
