A group of Cuban Health Collaborators who ended their work in Saint Lucia were bid farewell at an activity held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Cuba this past Friday, with the presence of Senator the Honorable Mary Isaac, Minister for Health and Wellness.

During her speech, the Minister thanked the Doctors and Specialists on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia for their work, dedication and the love with which they carried out their work for several years and for their significant contribution to health and wellness on this island.

She pointed out that Cuba and Saint Lucia will continue being sister nations and expressed her concern for the attempts of the United States Government to politicize Cuba’s medical cooperation, as well she rejected the decision to deny entry to the Minister of MINSAP (the Ministry of Public Health), José Ángel Portal, on American territory in order to participate in the meeting of the Pan-American Health Organization.  For his part, the Cuban Ambassador, Alejandro Simancas, expressed that the Cuban Collaborators are the true exponents of the friendship between the peoples of the two countries and highlighted the Bilateral Medical Collaboration as an example of South-South Cooperation, aimed at the communities most in need and based on the sense of solidarity and volunteerism of the Cuban professionals.

As appreciation for the successful completion of their Mission in Saint Lucia, each Cuban Specialist received a token of recognition from the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba) and the Cuban Medical Brigade in this country.  Present in attendance at this tribute activity were the Saint Lucian Ambassador before CARICOM and the O.E.C.S, Elma Gene Isaac, the President of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association, Dr. Merle Clarke as well as the Directors of this country’s main health institutions.
