DBS, the main televisión channel in Saint Lucia this past Sunday dedicated an outstanding segment to the role of Cuban collaboration in the country, especially in the field of health. On the Sunday News and Analysis Program “Bousquet Big Time”, the well-known journalist Earl Bousquet interviewed a group of Doctors representing the Cuban Medical Brigade and offered ample information of this Brigade to the improvement of the health indices in the Caribbean nation. Three Cuban Doctors, headed by the Coordinator of the Brigade, Dr. José Luis López explained that the work of the Cuban Collaborators is based on the principles of solidarity and friendship that have guided the bilateral relations and they informed that in the last four years, more than 187,000 patients have been treated, more than 9,000 operations have been performed and more than 500 lives have been saved. They also highlighted their dedicated work in the Ophthalmological Clinic, which marks its tenth anniversary this year and that originated from the “Operation Miracle (Operación Milagro)” Program. The five calls from the public ended up being particularly emotional, during which persons expressed their appreciation, fondness and affection because of the work of the Cuban Doctors. During the program, Cuba’s internationalist and solidarity cooperation was highlighted in general and Cuba’s decisive role in Africa to put an end to apartheid.
