Apia, Samoa, 27 April 2015. On the occasion of the official visit to Samoa, the Ambassador of Cuba Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro was received by the Head of State of this Pacific nation, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, who was accompanied by his wife, Her Highness Masiofo Filifilia Tamasese nee Imo.
During the friendly meeting, the fourth they have held since the Ambassador’s first visit to Samoa, both sides exchanged views on the recent evolution of the relations between Cuba and the US, at which time the Cuban diplomat referred extensively to the issues that are still pending between the two countries in order to move towards a normalization of ties, in particular to the need for the unconditional lifting of the blockade against Cuba.
For his part, the Head of State expressed his admiration for Cuba and its achievements and in that context recalled his visits to the Caribbean island, during which he had been able to verify everything that the Cuban government had done for its people, also recognizing the assistance provided by Cuba to other peoples of the world.
In this context, he expressed his desire to visit Cuba again and conveyed his greetings to the President and the government of Cuba.
