The Hague, October 29, 2023. As part of the celebrations for National Culture Day, Cuba presented the multi-award-winning Cuban film “Fresa y Chocolate” at the Delft Latin American Film Festival.
The Cuban film was screened as the closing of the second edition of the Festival and was also a reason to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its first screening in Dutch cinemas.
The public was able to enjoy the allusions to art, literature, history and taste Cuban cultural elements, including a beautiful syncretism harmonized with the music of José María Vitier, the rich Cuban dances such as the danzón, the dance, the contradanza and Lecuona's incidental music, which help us better understand the film and delve into it.
During the opening speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Anet Pino Rivero, made reference to how 30 years after the film, Cuban reality has continued its transformation. The approval of the Family Code in a national referendum in September 2022 opened a wide range of rights in the family environment, regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
The film was widely accepted among viewers, who enjoyed the mix of emotions provoked by this gem of Cuban cinematography.
