Second Secretary Greisy Cordero Suárez, speaks on the occasion of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Türkiye. 49th session of the Human Rights Council’s UPR Working Group. 

We extend a warm welcome to the delegation of Türkiye. We acknowledge the country’s commitment to the UPR and its efforts to address the consequences of COVID-19 and the 2023 earthquakes.

Furthermore, we commend Türkiye’s achievements in the effective implementation of the judicial reform strategy and the National Action Plan on Human Rights.

We also recognize Türkiye’s cooperation with the special procedures of the Human Rights Council, including the official visit to the country in 2022 by the Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls.

In a constructive spirit, we recommend:

1. Continue increasing women’s participation in the labor market.
2. Continue ensuring the inclusion of all children in education, especially girls, children with disabilities, and foreign children under protection.

We wish Türkiye success in this review and in implementing the accepted recommendations.
