Second Secretary Greisy Cordero Suárez, speaks on the occasion of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Guinea-Bissau. 49th session of the Human Rights Council’s UPR Working Group.

We extend a warm welcome to the delegation of Guinea-Bissau and acknowledge the country’s commitment to the Universal Periodic Review.

We highlight the adoption of the Labour Code and the National Strategy for Human Rights and Citizenship and its related plan of action (2022–2026).

We acknowledge Guinea-Bissau’s cooperation with the special procedures of the Human Rights Council, including the visit of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, and the Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation.

In a constructive spirit, we recommend:

1. Continue efforts in the comprehensive implementation of the National Development Plan (2020–2023;
2. Finalize the process of the adoption, by the National People’s Assembly, of the Code for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and the proposed amendments to the Civil Code, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Criminal Code, and the Code of Criminal Procedure;
3. Continue cooperation and technical assistance actions in the area of human rights protection.

We wish Guinea-Bissau every success in this review and in implementing the accepted recommendations.
