BANGKOK, January 15, 2018. - The Secretary General of the Commission of Higher Education of Thailand, Dr. Suphat Champatong, received the Ambassador of Cuba, Hector Conde Almeida.
In the cordial meeting the good path of the bilateral relations was confirmed and the mutual will to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with special mention to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries to be commemorated on May 15, 2018.
The Secretary General confirmed the attendance of a delegation from Thailand to the 11th. International Congress "UNIVERSIDAD 2018", which under the slogan "The University and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" will be held in Havana from February 12 to 16, 2018, which will be the first historical participation of a representation of Thailand in this type of events. The conclave was evaluated as an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and identify bilateral cooperation actions in the field of education between both nations.
The Secretary General and the Cuban diplomat expressed satisfaction with the ongoing actions and the development potential of mutual cooperation, highlighting in particular that joint efforts in the medical-pharmaceutical production for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases represent an important contribution to the implementation of Thailand's Development Strategy 4.0, aimed at raising the competitiveness and sustainability of its socio-economic model through science, technology and innovation, in accordance with the national philosophy of sufficient economy.
Both sides agreed on the importance of the promotion of South-South cooperation and the fulfillment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
