Cairo, January 28, 2026. The Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received the Cuban Ambassador to Egypt, Alexander Pellicer Moraga, at the organization's headquarters in this capital.
During the cordial meeting, they discussed the situation in Cuba and the Middle East in light of the dangerous scenarios that are looming. The Cuban diplomat updated the head of the Arab League on the difficult situation facing the island due to the intensification of the blockade and the irrational and illegal persecution of fuel shipments to Cuba, which are essential for electricity generation and the normal functioning of the country's economy.
The ambassador explained that Washington's objective is to cause as much suffering as possible to the Cuban people in order to provoke social unrest that would justify intervention in Cuba. At the same time, he reaffirmed the decision of the Cuban government and people to continue defending their independence and sovereignty to the bitter end.
For his part, Aboul Gheit thanked the Ambassador for the information he had provided and expressed his support and solidarity with Cuba in the face of the threats being made against the Greater Antilles. He also said he was sure that we would defend our independence and sovereignty.
During the meeting, the Ambassador recalled Aboul Gheit's visit to Cuba in 2009 to participate in a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement when he was Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, during which he had a positive meeting with Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz.
The League of Arab States is the regional organization that brings together the Arab states of the Middle East and Africa. It was founded on March 26, 1945, in Cairo and currently comprises 22 countries. (EmbaCuba Egipto)
