The Center for the State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed), authorized the start of phase III of the clinical trials of the vaccine candidate Soberana 02, after a rigorous analysis of the documentation presented by the Finlay Vaccine Institute.
Previously, the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, published this Wednesday, on his Twitter account, that phase III of the Soberana 02 and Abdala clinical trials will begin very soon, in Havana, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo, with more than 85,000 volunteers; and also phase II of Soberana 01 in Cienfuegos. "Hope comes, but let's not forget responsibility," he said.
He also highlighted “another milestone in our science: Sovereign 01A, a new vaccine candidate (the fifth in Cuba) for convalescents from COVID-19. Cuban science continues to provide good news.
Such results remind us that the history of the Revolution is a continuous cycle, punctuated by epic moments that, although they start from an epochal context, serve to define both the wood of that social process and that of its people, a fundamental actor of all the achievements.
The national epics have, since 1959, the aura of the great collective causes, in which the decision of a society is united with the spirit of its time and faith in a cause. We Cubans participated in several of these that colored our history with the green pigments of hope, because no people who staged them should amputate their certainties of tomorrow.
We intervened, and we won, in the Literacy Campaign, in the cleaning of bandits in the Escambray, in the warlike imperialist aggression by Playa Girón, in the institutionalization plans, in the productive conflicts, in the industrialization of the provinces, in the battle for the return of the child Elián González ...
Cuba, shortly, will embrace a new epic, perhaps the most outstanding that can be fought today: the immunization of its people against a deadly virus that has terrorized the world.
The pandemic is one of the main challenges of this time, along with global warming, the danger of a nuclear explosion and the US policy of predation.
After producing - thanks to the development of biotechnology - what constitutes the first vaccine in Latin America against the SARS-COV-2 virus, according to the Pan American Health Organization and the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development, the Island will be in the ideal possibility of starting a vaccination campaign that will prevent its population against COVID-19.
After the first batch of 150,000 doses of Soberana 02 was announced (out of the expected one hundred million) and the preparation of the second was underway, it was announced that production of the vaccine candidate Abdala also began.
What is happening in this country - in the midst of an atrocious blockade of any financial entry - is something only credible because it is about Cuba, its Revolution, its insomniac ward to preserve the health of the people, the work of Fidel's efforts.
