Solidarity with Cuba in the face of the fuel blockade imposed by the United States government.

Prominent figures from the academic, journalistic, artistic, and trade union spheres in Türkiye have signed a declaration of solidarity with the Cuban people promoted by the José Martí Friendship Association with Cuba, in the context of the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States.

The campaign is being carried out specifically in rejection of the executive order signed on January 29 by President Donald Trump, a measure that reinforces economic restrictions against Cuba and limits, among other aspects, access to essential energy supplies. The organizers have denounced that this decision worsens the humanitarian impact of the blockade, affecting strategic sectors such as public health, education, transportation, and food production.

According to the Turkish outlet soL Haber, the initiative has received the support of renowned intellectuals, university professors, writers, cartoonists, physicians, trade union leaders, and communicators, who have raised their voices to denounce the extraterritorial and coercive nature of these measures.

Among the signatories are prestigious academics, journalists committed to social causes, representatives of the trade union movement, and figures from the cultural world, who agree that the fuel blockade imposed on Cuba constitutes a form of pressure that directly impacts the daily lives of the Cuban people and hinders the functioning of hospitals and educational centers, transportation, electricity generation, water supply, and agriculture.

The signatories have emphasized that solidarity with Cuba constitutes an ethical and humanitarian duty, while reaffirming the Cuban people's right to sovereignty and development without external interference. They also highlighted Cuba’s historic contribution to international cooperation, particularly in the fields of healthcare and professional training.

The broad and diverse representation of Turkish society in this declaration demonstrates the growing support in Türkiye for lifting the blockade and defending international law.
