As part of the Odigitis Festival of the KNE Youth, a well-attended event in solidarity with Cuba was held under the slogan "Stop the Blockade! Let Cuba Breathe!"
The event, organized by the KKE, was attended by Giorgos Marinos, a member of the KKE's Political Bureau, and MEPs Kostas Papadakis and Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos.
The main speakers at the event were the Cuban Ambassador to Greece, Aramis Fuente Hernández, and Aris Evangelidis, a member of the International Relations Department of the KKE Central Committee.
The event reaffirmed the solidarity of the Greek people with the heroic struggle of the Cuban people and once again condemned the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, demanding its immediate cessation. Likewise, the unjust and unilateral inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism was denounced, and it was demanded that Cuba be removed from that illegitimate list.
At the event, solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people was strongly reaffirmed, demanding that the genocide being carried out against them must cease.
Likewise, the aggressive policy that characterizes imperialism and the unacceptable threats against Venezuela were denounced, as well as the massive deployment of US military forces in the Caribbean maritime area under the false pretext of combating drug trafficking.
Cuban solidarity with the people of Palestine
The ambassador stated that Cuba categorically rejects the US military mobilization in the region, warning that it is "an act of harassment and a military threat against Venezuela and against Latin America and the Caribbean."
Regarding Cuba, he noted that the US embargo has intensified to "unprecedented" levels, with the objective of the "social explosion they so desperately desire."
Aris Evangelidis, a member of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the KKE, expressed the solidarity of the KKE and KNE with the Cuban people and the Cuban revolution, condemning the long-standing, multi-level imperialist blockade.
He explained that the US government, over time, "not only has not relaxed the measures of the barbaric blockade that has been in place for more than 60 years, but on the contrary, is adding successive measures to suffocate the Cuban people."
Referring to the "general picture" of the Trump administration's aggressive moves, he said they began with Panama, even threatening military intervention to regain control of the Canal, and are now proceeding to deploy naval forces with 12 ships and thousands of marines, both in the Caribbean and on the Pacific side, targeting Venezuela. "The pretext of fighting drug trafficking and cartels is even more ridiculous than other flimsy pretexts, such as 'defending democracy' and 'human rights,'" he stressed.
Laura Richardson (until recently the commander of the U.S. Armed Forces Southern Command) did not fail to point out that the vast oil fields in Venezuela and Guyana, the so-called lithium triangle in Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, and other mineral resources in the region such as copper and gold, even the water resources of the Amazon, etc., are all a matter of U.S. "national interests."
