Solidarity with Cuba. Statement from the 31st Congress of the Communist Party of Norway 2022.

Oslo, June 21, 2022. During its 31st Congress, held from 4 to 6 June in Bergen, the Communist Party of Norway (NKP) approved the following statement in solidarity with Cuba:

On Friday, June 3, the remnants of Hurricane Agatha hit the western and central provinces of Cuba with strong winds and heavy rainfall. As a result, large areas of arable land were flooded and valuable crops were destroyed. More than a hundred thousand people lost access to electricity, thousands had to be evacuated from their homes, and some buildings collapsed. According to the latest reports, 3 people lost their lives due to the rain.

Cuba, due to its geographical position, is vulnerable to extreme weather events, and the damage caused by these events has been exacerbated by global warming, rising sea levels and the criminal blockade imposed by the United States, which limits Cuba's ability to prepare on and respond to these challenges.

The 31st Congress of the Communist Party of Norway (NKP) stands in solidarity with the Cuban people, who have suffered under these extreme weather conditions. The Congress also supports the Cuban government, the mass organizations in Cuba and our comrades in the Cuban Communist Party who are working to mitigate the damage, to ensure the safety and health of the Cuban people, and to begin reconstruction. Congress offers condolences to the families and friends of the Cubans who have lost their lives.

Finally, the Congress reiterates its commitment to defend the heroic Cuban people from all harm, to support the Cuban people's struggle against US imperialism, and to always stand in solidarity with the Cuban Revolution that is an inspiration to us all.
