Islamabad, May 1, 2026. The staff of the Cuban Embassy in Pakistan felt the full force of solidarity when, on the afternoon of this Saturday, May 1, a delegation from the Association of Pakistani Doctors Graduated in Cuba visited the diplomatic compound to reaffirm their support for the Cuban government and people against the U.S. blockade.
These young people, who now practice medicine in various hospitals across Pakistan, are eternally grateful for what they learned in Cuba—for the rigor of their professional training, the reinforcement of values, and the practice of solidarity—with no other interest than to stand in solidarity, body and soul, with the sacred commitment to saving lives.
At this exceptional gathering, the Cuban Ambassador, Damián Cordero, had the opportunity to hear firsthand, from the protagonists themselves, the memories they carried back from the Cuban provinces where they studied—from Santa Clara with its derailed train and the resting place of the eternal Commander Guevara, from the Cienfuegos boardwalk and the sites associated with Benny Moré, or from Santi Spiritus as one of the first towns founded by the Spanish on the island. But what they treasure most are the memories of the supportive people, of the Cuban “second mothers” and grandmothers they left behind, of the friends and brothers they made—bonds that cannot be replicated—but also of that admiration for the resilience of the Cuban people in overcoming the blockades from the North and continuing to laugh at life.
The exchange also provided an opportunity to discuss the suffocating effects of the energy blockade imposed by the United States and its devastating impact on the daily lives of Cubans, in hospitals and health centers.
The Pakistani doctors also took the opportunity to discuss the Association’s agenda for strengthening solidarity and exchange with the health sector on the island. We also remembered #Fidel and the activities planned to mark his centenary.
A meeting in which we all agreed that, at any cost, #LaPatriaSeDefiende.
