Port Louis, February 4, 2026 - The Mauritius-Cuba Friendship Association today strongly condemned the latest attempt by the US government to strangle the population of the Caribbean nation by trying to halt all fuel shipments to the island.
This new act of cruelty will cause power outages in Cuban homes, hospitals, and schools, according to a statement from the solidarity association in this African country in the Indian Ocean.
The Trump regime, it added, is prepared to punish with severe sanctions and tariffs any third country that sells oil to Havana, in clear violation of the United Nations Charter on free trade between nations.
The US president has absurdly and irrationally declared that Cuba represents a threat to the national security of the United States.
While the United States sells bombs, the statement emphasized, Cuba provides tireless medical and technical assistance, vaccines, and medicines to poor countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Despite 67 years of a brutal economic blockade, the island has provided free medical training, primarily to doctors from countries in the Global South.
The Friendship Association calls on all nations to defend international law, sovereignty, security, and the right to self-determination of Cuba.
