On the 68th Anniversary of the partition of Palestine by the United Nations, the "Caribbean against Apartheid in Palestine" [CAAP] group held a public meeting and showed a film at the Venezuelan Cultural Institute in Hastings, Barbados. In this activity, chaired by Peter Ashan, President of the CAAP, activists urged Barbados to follow the example of most member nations of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and recognize the State of Palestine. Among the attendees were the ambassadors of Cuba and Venezuela accredited in the country.
Speakers included David Denny, the Caribbean Movement for Peace, Lalu Hanuman, Secretary of the CAAP, and Shaheera Mohamad, who presented a photographic projection on his recent visit to Palestine.
Lalu Hanuman metaphorically described Israel as the rock that has been thrown into the pond in the Middle East, whose waves have generated instability and conflict both in that area and globally, especially by the strong militarization of the sub region. He said that Israel was ultimately the cause of the Syrian conflict and refugee crisis and the emergence of al-Qaeda and the Islamic state.
While Israel continues to ignore international law, commits daily atrocities against the Palestinians and condemns the Palestinians to a life seemingly endless fields of miserable refugees, the United States and Western countries continue to provide military and diplomatic protection to Israel apartheid. Hanuman said in one of his comments: "Justice for Palestinians is the clear and obvious to halt the rise of fundamentalist terrorism prerequisite '.
