The Cuba-Türkiye Friendship Association made a donation of 83 boxes, with a total weight of 1250 kg (1.25 metric tons), containing: syringes, medical gloves, Foley catheter and medical masks. The donation was shipped yesterday and is scheduled to arrive in Cuba in about 40 to 45 days.
The Cuban Embassy in Türkiye, ICAP and MINSAP expressed their gratitude for this gesture of solidarity, and stressed the importance of the valuable donation, which, according to Dr. Yamira Palacios, Head of the Cooperation Department of MINSAP, "the contents of this donation will allow the continuity of medical care for patients injured by the accident in Matanzas, as well as other needs of our health institutions".
Likewise, the words of solidarity towards the Cuban people and our Revolution, pronounced by Nahide Özkan, President of the Cuba-Türkiye Friendship Association "José Martí", during the brief act celebrated at the moment of the shipment of the donation, where she expressed that:
"The aim of the campaign we started last November, entitled: "Solidarity is stronger than the blockade", was to show solidarity with the Cuban people in various sectors, especially the health sector, where supplies were lacking because the US blockade was reinforced in pandemic conditions. That is why we started our campaign to supply medical supplies such as masks, medical gloves, syringes and probes.
Of course, the supplies we have sent from here are very humble contributions to the needs of the Cuban people. But our campaign has a meaning beyond the quantity of the supplies. The meaning of our campaign is to salute and support the resistance that the people of Cuba have shown in the face of the blockade, the determination to defend socialism and the virtue they have demonstrated in extending a hand of solidarity to other countries even under pandemic conditions.
In addition to the thousands of people, several municipalities, mass democratic organizations, artists and intellectuals have supported the campaign. We thank them all. Among those thousands of people are the students who donated their pocket money and the workers who shared their daily wages. Because with their commitment to socialism, anti-imperialism and international solidarity, the Cuban people hold a dear and respected place in the hearts of all the people of Türkiye. This campaign has once again demonstrated this.
We believe that this campaign will strengthen the bond between the two countries.
