Athens, October 6. Cuba's ambassador to Greece Zelmys María Dominguez Cortina and councillor José Oriol Marrero Martinez held several working meetings on the Greek island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea.
The meetings were coordinated with the Secretary of Culture of the Cultural Center of Lefkada Ioanna Filippa and the businessman friend of Cuba Costas Vayenas.
Cuban diplomats held an important meeting with members of the municipal council, representatives of various parties, cultural center executives, entrepreneurs, students of Spanish language and friends of Cuba in general, who reaffirmed their solidarity and were interested in learning about the situation in Cuba, at a time when US´s economic, commercial and financial blockade is escalating, expressing support for the revolution , against the unjust blockade. A number of topics of general interest were discussed about the situation in Cuba, the Cuban medical brigades abroad and their Nobel Prize nomination, as well as the situation of COVID among other topics. Friends expressed a willingness to create a Cuban Hellenic Friendship Association in Lefkada, similar to those in other cities across the country. Cuba was also disclosed as a tourist destination, leaflets were delivered on this subject, and the great interest of the Greek people in traveling to the Caribbean island was explained, and that the number of Hellenic tourists to the Cuban destination has increased last year, which is expected to continue to increase in the post-COVID stage.
There was also a meeting at Bar Habana, owned by Cuban resident Rene Soler, where several topics of cultural interest were discussed to the beat of live Cuban music.
As a culmination of the activities at the island, a courtesy meeting was held with Mayor Charalampos Kalos, at the headquarters of the mayor's office. The meeting discussed the continuity of the cultural exchange between Cuba and Lefkada, where Cuba's successful activities have been carried out during the LEA (Ibero-American Literature in Athens) festival, of which Lefkada is a sub-site, as well as other new possibilities for cultural cooperation when conditions permit. It was further explained on the current situation in Cuba, the strengthened of the blockade, among other topics. In addition, the next publication of the book of the counselor "José Martí y lo Griego" was reported, which is on what the national hero of Cuba wrote about Greece, with also photos of the counselor on the geographical sites mentioned by Marti, a book that was also agreed to present in Lefkada
In general, they were friendly and fruitful meetings dominated by the love and interest in Cuba by Greek friends.
