Georgetown, May 8, 2020. Cuban citizens permanent residents in the national territory who have been stranded in Guyana, and those who have lost their jobs after the emergency measures adopted to face SARS CoV 2 / Covid-19, continue to receive the support from the Embassy through donations received by the Cuban Medical Brigade, Guyanese solidarity groups, and Cubans hired in this country.
Health Collaborators from New Amsterdam, Diamond, Georgetown Health Coordinator; Solidarity Friends with Cuba such as Haleem Khan, president of the Guyana Solidarity Movement with Cuba, Cubans hired in Guyana of Health and Education sectors, among others have joined with their selflessness help in this noble cause.
In addition, it has been made coordination with owners of hostels and rental houses to lower their prices, and even free-of -charges have been achieved, as far as possible, for those compatriots with economic difficulties.
Moreover, it has been given the possibility of medical care and the delivery of medicines to people suffering from chronic diseases.
The Embassy and the Cuban Consular Office to Guyana maintain permanent monitoring of the situation of Cubans in Guyanese territory, explaining the situation, delivering the aid received and counseling each Cuban citizen. Since the epidemiological situation arose, 302 Cuban citizens have returned to Cuba from Guyana, and efforts have continued so that all of them can do so.
The Embassy and the Consulate of Cuba to Guyana reiterate their gratitude to all the people, solidarity groups, Cubans residing in Guyana, health collaborators, and to all those who contribute every day to support our compatriots in this difficult situation. They restate that they will continue working to have them come back to Cuba.
