A contingent of seven Somalis students who have been awarded scholarships to study medicine in Cuba, left Somalia to embark on their studies in the next Academic Year 2026-2027.
The Republic of Cuba has awarded to Somalia a number of scholarships to study medicine under the Scholarship Program launched by the Cuban Government and its visionary revolutionary leader, the late Fidel Castro.
The students will begin their 2026-2027 academic year at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), an academic institution officially inaugurated on November 15, 1999.
Since its founding, ELAM has graduated over 31,200 students from 122 countries (including 244 from the U.S.) Valuable and committed educators have made Fidel's dream of training doctors of science and conscience come true.
The history of ELAM, a university indissolubly linked to the history of Cuba, has shown the world that in a small island “maker of the impossible” we will never stop believing in hope.
