Sowing a tree in Copenhagen as a tribute to Fidel

Sowing a tree in Copenhagen as a tribute to Fidel

Members of the Association of Friendship Cuba-Denmark and members of the solidarity group Patria Grande, with the support of Christiania’s commune in Copenhagen, paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution on the occasion of the first anniversary of his death by planting a tree, next to which they placed a stone dedicated to Fidel. The Embassy of Cuba in Denmark attended to the ceremony, as well as the Ambassadors of Venezuela, Bolivia, Algeria and Iran, among other diplomats. Members of the Danish Communist Parties and trade unions, Cuban residents in Denmark, representatives of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine in that country, among other friends of Cuba also participated.

In the framework of the activity the Association of Friendship Cuba-Denmark presented a publication of several reflections of the Commander in Chief translated into the Danish language that show the deep validity of his thought. Likewise, the Cuban resident in Denmark Mirialis Starup recited moving poems of her own inspiration dedicated to Fidel.

Last March, an oak was planted in the same place, a few meters away, in commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the death of Commander Hugo Chávez. Through the sowing of the tree in homage to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, the initiative of the Christiania’s community in Copenhagen to plant a forest that pays tribute to important revolutionary figures is being consolidated.
