Suva, March 11- The Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji, Honorable Ratu Epeli Nailatikau received today the Ambassador of Cuba to this country, Carlos Manuel Rojas Lago. In a cordial environment, both discussed on issues of interest on the international scene and on the progress of bilateral ties.
The also former president of Fiji recalled with satisfaction his visit to Havana in 2008 when he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, while expressing his willingness to promote exchanges between both Parliaments. He recognized the prestige of Cuba on the international stage for the remarkable results in the social field and highlighted the great contribution and example of the Caribbean Island, by making available its talented medical personnel and athletes for other nations, including Pacific Islands States.
On his side, the Cuban highest-ranked diplomatic representative here thanked Fiji for its support in the fight of its people against the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and offered an update on the most recent measures to intensify this criminal policy. The Ambassador underlined the potential that exists to deepen cooperation between the two States, taking advantage of the sustained expansion of bilateral political dialogue.
Viniana Namosimalua, General Secretary of Parliament and Foreign Ministry officials also participated in the meeting.
