Kingston, 28 May 2024. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez was received by the Honourable Juliet Holness, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Jamaican Parliament, who was accompanied by Collen Lowe, Clerk of the legislative body.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat provided an update on the complex economic scenario facing our country as a result of the tightening of the genocidal policy of the blockade imposed by the United States government against the Cuban people, and the island's continued inclusion in the illegal list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism drawn up unilaterally by the White House. He thanked the Jamaican government and people for their continued support for the just struggle of our people, as well as the passing of a motion against the blockade by Parliament for more than a decade.
The Jamaican MP, for her part, ratified the solidarity with the Cuban people and government, and the permanent accompaniment of the legislative body over which she presides in the denunciation and rejection of the blockade, while recognising Cuba's resilience in the face of adversity and in defence of its independence, sovereignty and national culture.
Both parties reaffirmed their interest in strengthening the exchange between the legislative bodies of both nations.
