The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia, Peter Katjavivi, arrived in Cuba this October 19 to make an official visit to our country heading a delegation of parliamentarians from the sister African nation.

Upon arrival at the “José Martí” international airport in Havana; the distinguished visitor was received by Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the Cuban legislature, who first conveyed a warm greeting from the President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernández.

In the fraternal exchange, Ana María Mari Machado stressed the significance of this visit during the country's electro-energy situation, which constitutes another example of deep solidarity of the Namibian people and authorities with our Homeland. At the same time, she highlighted the unity of our people and how they have worked with dedication and perseverance on the part of the electrical workers, the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the country's leadership in the process of reestablishing the National Electrical System.

For his part, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia reiterated the invariable solidarity and support for our country, especially for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government against Cuba.

«We have expressed in explicit terms our strongest condemnation of the blockade imposed against Cuba, an irrational policy rejected by the vast majority of the international community, including Namibia. The blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba's development. We are against the blockade and we have expressed this position on multiple occasions in our National Assembly so that the blockade is definitively lifted," said Peter Katjavivi.

Also present at the air terminal were Martha del Carmen Mesa Valenciano, president of the Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment Commission of the National Assembly; Amarilys Lafargue, secretary of the Cuba-Namibia Parliamentary Friendship Group; Samuel Henrik Goagoseb, Ambassador of the African nation in our country; and Ulman Carmona Ramos, International Relations official of the Cuban legislature.

During his stay in our country, Peter Katjavivi will hold conversations with his Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo Hernández; among other activities.
