Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana receives the Cuban Ambassador

Cuba's Ambassador to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González was received at the Parliament of Ghana by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.

The Cuban diplomat stressed that in the upcoming December 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be fulfilled, and that it would be very positive that the Speaker could complete a visit to Cuba as part of the strengthening process of the relations between both legislative bodies.

The Ambassador reviewed the latest actions carried out between both countries based on parliamentary relations, including the visit made to the Speaker by the former Vice President of the Council of State, Mercedes López Acea in February 2018 and the visit made to the President of the National Assembly of People´s Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández, by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his official visit to Cuba in April 2019.

He also highlighted the good progress of cooperation, mainly in the education and health sectors with the preparation in Cuba of Ghanaian medical students and the work carried out by the Cuban Medical Brigade in the African country.

The Ghanaian parliamentary leader advanced his congratulations on the 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and said that these would not be complete without a greater relationship between the parliaments of both countries. He added that both countries have much in common in several aspects, including cultural, nutritional and family values. He highlighted the strength of the Cuban people in the face of global challenges and the indomitable character of his spirit, which has earned him international respect.

The Speaker said that as part of the process of strengthening parliamentary relations he could make a visit to Cuba, as well as work on the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba.
