New York, 13 August 2026. – As part of the activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, participated in a special radio program broadcast by WPFW, based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the life and legacy of the historic Cuban leader.
The program also featured the participation of Bob Schwartz, Executive Director of Global Health Partners, along with Mimi Rosenberg and James Early.
During the broadcast, the panellists underscored Fidel's political, historical, and humanistic legacy, his pivotal role in the defence of Cuba's sovereignty and independence, his steadfast commitment to social justice, and his internationalist vision. The achievements of the Cuban Revolution in healthcare, education, science, culture, and international cooperation were likewise highlighted.
Ambassador Soberón also referred to Cuba's current circumstances, shaped by the intensified blockade policy of the United States—particularly the measures designed to restrict the country's access to fuel and energy supplies. He explained that these actions have a direct humanitarian impact on the Cuban population, as they undermine Cuba's capacity to ensure the timely provision of medicines, food, fuel, medical supplies, and other essential goods. He reiterated that the blockade constitutes the principal obstacle to Cuba's economic and social development and that its effects severely impair the daily lives of Cuban families.
The Cuban Permanent Representative further reaffirmed Cuba's openness to dialogue with the United States, as well as its commitment to a relationship founded on mutual respect, the sovereign equality of States, and non-interference in internal affairs.
