The Hague, January 29, 2024. The called "Community of Etiocubans in Europe” participated in the II International Meeting "Europe for Cuba", where it denounced the unjust blockade policy and called for its end. The vice-president of the Community, Samsom Shetaye, pronounced the following words:
Welcome to the second Europe for Cuba International Meeting!
Dear friends:
Dear Friend José Antonio Toledo, a great person who in a short time has been able to win the affection and appreciation of many former Ethiopian scholarship holders who call themselves ETHIOCUBANS and in fact our association is called Community of ETHIOCUBANS in Europe.
We are Ethiopians from that Internationalist Education that was one of the most beautiful projects carried out by the Cuban Revolution where Cuba hosted tens of thousands of children and adolescents from more than 35 countries.
It was much more than offering the possibility to a group of African nations that had just left behind years of colonialism, wars for the exploitation of their wealth, to prepare their young people to face the enormous challenge of development.
"Being in Cuba was not just studying, it was a lesson in ethics and morals that has served us and will serve us for life....."
Thank you Cuba for so much Education, solidarity is a firm determination to work for the common good.
Solidarity is not blocked, we are demonstrating it, because solidarity is a guarantee of humanity.
Today, to show solidarity with Cuba is to speak about humanity, the world must raise its voice and vindicate the right of the Cuban people to be the owner of their destiny and to forge their own path, to live in peace, in harmony with the countries of the world that want to share values that are precious to human beings, solidarity, cooperation, social development, etc.
The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba more than six decades ago is unjust, criminal and the longest genocide in history and must end once and for all.
CUBA would be better off without the blockade.
The United Nations General Assembly, for 31 consecutive year and with an overwhelming majority, has condemned the U.S. blockade of Cuba and the need to put an end to the criminal and inhumane blockade.
Of the 193 members of the organization, the majority vote in favor of Cuba, the UN Charter and International Law always act, but when will they be able to assert the greatness of their identity?
A great people like CUBA that has done so much for humanity, is punished, unjustly blockaded and the consequences, the needs are increasing.
We must be constantly working to eliminate the blockade, if we do everything we do with the intention to give, to serve and to be grateful, we will have a just world and with Cuba a better world is possible because Cuba is human.
Long live Cuba, down with the blockade!
Thank you
