Speeches highlight regional unity with Cuba during solidarity event

Intervenciones destacan unidad regional con la Isla durante evento de solidaridad

During the first solidarity dinner with Cuba, held at the Trade Center in Saint George, several public interventions were delivered in support of the Island. The speakers agreed on emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional unity in the face of the blockade and on highlighting the historic cooperation that has characterized relations with the Caribbean nation.

Malachy Dottin, President of the Committee of Grenadian Graduates in Cuba, spoke to underscore that Cuba has contributed to the training of Grenadian professionals and noted that this legacy inspires both political and human support for the Island.

For his part, Ruggles Ferguson, King’s Counsel, focused his message on denouncing the economic blockade imposed by the United States. The prominent jurist explained that the coercive measures against Cuba constitute a violation of international law.

Similarly, Claris Charles, former Ambassador of Grenada to Cuba, recalled the cooperation that the Island has provided in sectors such as health and education. In her speech, she affirmed that the friendship between both peoples has been consolidated over decades and that the defense of Cuba is also the defense of the dignity of the region—a principle that should guide the political and social action of Grenada.

The solidarity dinner at the Trade Center, organized to raise funds in support of Cuba, brought together political leaders, diplomats, and representatives of civil society. It was a space where representatives of various Grenadian sectors called for strengthening solidarity to counter the escalation of U.S. actions against the largest island in the Caribbean.

Cubans residing in Grenada also participated in the event, their presence reflecting the permanent ties of the community abroad with their homeland.
