In Sri Lanka celebrated 66th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

Colombo, December 31, 2024. A tribute and celebration event was held at the Cuban embassy in Colombo on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban revolution, which is commemorated on January 1, 2025. The event was head by the Cuban ambassador Andrés Marcelo González Garrido and as a special   guest, the Minister of Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, parliamentarian and member of the Central Committee of the People's Liberation Front party (JVP, currently in government), Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe.
Friends of Cuba from different political forces participated in the activity (Communist Party (CPSL), Socialist Front Line (FSP), Democratic Left Front (DLF), National Freedom Front (NFF), Equality Party of Lanka (LSSP), Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP), Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lanka (SYU), Socialist Students Union, members of the friendship association and graduates of Cuban institutions.
In his welcoming remarks, the Cuban ambassador highlighted Cuba's commitment to the continuity of Fidel's thought and to preserving the great objectives of building socialism and that despite the blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years and the complex situation that the country has faced, Cuba has achieved goals of justice that continue to be an aspiration for millions of people in the world. He also emphasized that the Revolution made us truly free, independent and sovereign, and we will never renounce those principles.
For his part, Minister Wasantha thanked Cuba for its example and fraternity and highlighted the solid friendship that has always united his party and organization with the Cuban revolution and its political bodies. He congratulated the Cubans on their 66th anniversary and wished them success in their tasks.
Leaders of the Sri Lankan Communist Party, the Democratic Left Front and other political forces, as well as graduates of Cuba, congratulated Cuba, its people, government and the communist party . They all highlighted the example that Cuba has meant for the world, thanked it for its cooperation and expressed solidarity with its cause, its sovereignty and independence.
