Colombo, February 28, 2025. With the presence of the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne and the Cuban ambassador, Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, the Sri Lanka-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association was officially reconstituted.
In his introductory remarks, the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka expressed the satisfaction of establishing the Friendship Association with a country like Cuba, with which they have been united for more than 60 years of solid brotherhood and cooperation in health, sports, education, etc.
During the meeting, the Executive Committee of the Association was formed, which was made up of a President, who turned out to be Sunil Kumara Gamagen, Minister of Sports and Youth, as well as 3 vice presidents, a secretary, an assistant secretary and a treasurer and the other members of the Association.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador highlighted the solidarity that Cuba has always received from Sri Lanka, as well as the interest of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, in strengthening ties with the Parliament of Sri Lanka and especially with this Parliamentary Association of Friendship and establishing a common and cohesive work in order to strengthen interparliamentary relations, as well as developing cooperation between both countries in the fields of politics, economy, trade, finance, science, education, culture, sports and other areas.
The President-elect of the Sri Lanka-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association, Minister Sunil Kumara Gamagen, in his introductory remarks expressed his admiration for the Cuban revolution and its socialist principles, as well as for leaders such as Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.
The Secretary of the Association highlighted the interest in strengthening relations between the two parliaments and his admiration for Cuba.
With the re-establishment of the Sri Lanka-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association, the friendship and solidarity between the two countries and peoples is expanded
