Sri Lanka pays tribute to Che Guevara on the 53rd Anniversary of his assassination

SRI LANKA, October 9, 2020. - The Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lanka (SYU) and the officials of the Cuban Embassy paid floral tribute to Che Guevara on the 53rd anniversary of his assassination in Bolivia, along with the mahogany planted by the Heroic Guerrilla, during his visit to Sri Lanka in August 1959. This place is currently known as “Che Garden”.

In addition, the Socialist Youth Union delivered to the Cuban Ambassador, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, a declaration of solidarity with Cuba, by means of which they express their rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

In its statement, the SYU also highlights the work of the Cuban medical collaboration and joins the international campaign in support of the proposal that the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize be awarded to the "Henry Reeve" Cuban Medical Contingent.

The Ambassador, in her speech, highlights Che's contribution in the fight against the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista and after the victory of the 1st. January 1959, in the consolidation of the revolutionary government.

She also demanded that the silence of the United States authorities in relation to the attack perpetrated against the Cuban Embassy in Washington, on April 30, 2020, be put to an end and the perpetrator of said attack be tried for the crime of terrorism.
