Colombo, November 24, 2024. The Association of Sri Lankan Graduates in Cuba, together with the Cuban embassy, organized a well-deserved tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the occasion of the commemoration of the eighth anniversary of his physical disappearance on November 25.
At the event, chaired by the Cuban ambassador Andrés Marcelo González Garrido and by Chiththadhamma Rathnamudali, President of the Association of Sri Lankan Graduates in Cuba and other members of the board, flowers were laid before the bust of Fidel and the flags of Cuba and Sri Lanka.
The activity took place within the framework of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Sri Lanka that we are celebrating this year 2024.
The ambassador expressed that Fidel was a man for whom the ideas of cooperation with other countries were made evident with the training of foreign students in Cuba through scholarships and courses in Cuban institutions, an example of these actions are the Sri Lankan graduates.
Later, the diplomat referred to the celebration of the 66th anniversary of the Cuban revolution to be commemorated on January 1, 2025 with joy, enthusiasm and confidence in the future and always under the guidance of Fidel.
The directors of the Sri Lankan graduate’s association and the different members expressed that Fidel is an example that endures and is a beacon of inspiration for all and transmitted beautiful messages of gratitude and admiration for his figure and legacy.
A worthy tribute to Fidel, whose validity of ideas and thought will always endure.
