Sri Lankan press highlights that Cuba and the international community urge the United States to remove Cuba from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

Colombo, May 28, 2024. The digital newspaper ❝Sri Lanka Guardian❝ publishes an article on the front page highlighting that Cuba and many countries around the world have joined a call for the United States to remove Cuba from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The report refers to the statement issued by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to the US Secretary of State's recent presentation to Congress, removing Cuba from a list of countries that allegedly did not fully cooperate with anti-terrorist efforts of the United States during the year 2023, but that despite this omission, Cuba continues to be unfairly categorized as a state sponsor of terrorism by the United States Department of State.
Later, the article points out that the Cuban government has condemned the inclusion in these lists, considering it unfounded and unilateral, since it only serves to affect the sovereignty of nations and provide a pretext to impose coercive economic sanctions. These sanctions inflict significant damage on the economy and impede international relations.
The publication concludes by arguing that the demand that the United States rectify this injustice is decisive and comes from the Cuban people, the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as political, social and religious organizations within the United States itself. The Cuban government calls on the President of the United States to act honestly and rectify this situation, recognizing Cuba's cooperation and ending unjust accusations of sponsorship of terrorism.
The Sri Lanka Guardian is an online newspaper founded in August 2007 by a group of journalists, activists, academics and retired civil servants.
