Colombo, October 16, 2024. The new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya received the Cuban ambassador to Sri Lanka, Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, who congratulated her on her appointment and wished her success.
During the meeting, the diplomat updated her on bilateral issues, and referred to Cuba's achievements in the areas of health and sports, Sri Lankan graduates from Cuban institutions and students currently at ELAM, studying Medicine.
The Prime Minister thanked the congratulations and expressed her government's interest in strengthening relations with Cuba, in the areas where she knows the successes achieved, such as health and sports.
The ambassador referred to the Cuban experience after the triumph of the revolution, when the practice of mass sports became one of the first measures of the revolutionary government. He also expressed Cuba's interest in strengthening the historic relations that have lasted more than 65 years and cooperation with Sri Lanka.
