Sri Lankan Student Received Scholarship to Study Medicine in Cuba

Colombo, July 30, 2025. As part of a scholarship program that Cuba offers to Sri Lanka, Ambassador Andrés Marcelo González Garrido welcomed Sonal Madhuwantha Subasinghe Mudiyanselage, a Sri Lankan student selected to travel to Cuba shortly to begin her training at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in September.
The student expressed his satisfaction at having the opportunity to study medicine in Cuba. Other Sri Lankan students are currently at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM).
The Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Cuba has graduated thousands of medical students from various countries, especially Latin America and the Caribbean, but also from other regions such as Africa, Asia, and the United States. The school, founded by Fidel Castro, is known for its focus on training doctors with a strong social vocation and commitment to vulnerable communities.
