Accra, December 30, 2023. - By welcoming the invitees to the Cuban House in Ghana the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Ghana, Anette Chao García, began her speech at the National Day reception held in the Ghanaian capital.
The Cuban official recalled the main achievements accomplished throughout the 64 years of diplomatic relations, established on December 23, 1959; thanked the support to the island in its struggle against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States; the denouncement of the inclusion of Cuba in the list of terrorist countries made-up by the US State Department; as well as other actions of solidarity and the special treatment offered to the Cuban Vice President, Salvador Valdés Mesa, during his visit to the African nation. The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of the Reception as it was dedicated to the celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution and, with heartfelt emotion, acknowledged that the good relations between the two countries are based on the foundations established by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the leader of Ghanaian independence, Kwame Nrumah, who met at the Theresa Hotel in Harlem in September 1960.
On the Ghanaian side, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, responded to the speech, in which she recognised the value of the relations between Cuba and her country, their stability and the unconditional brotherhood they enjoy. She also thanked Cuba for its support in the health and education sectors and recalled the number of students who travelled to Cuba in the 1980s for training and who are now valuable professionals for Ghana. The Minister assured of the country's readiness to diversify the collaboration to other sectors of interest.
Among the participants there were members of the Ghanaian Parliament such as the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Association with Cuba Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Senior Advisor at the Speaker's Secretariat, former MP Hon. Kofi Attor; members of the Diplomatic Corps and important members of the solidarity with Cuba such as H.E. Mr. Kojo Amoo Gottfried, Dr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr. and Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet. There was also an important participation of the graduates in Cuba led by their President Phillip Bentil Arthur, and of the Cuban residents whose President is Beatriz Roll Hernandez.
