Statement by Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson on the Human Rights Situation in Ukraine

Mr. President,

Cuba upholds objectivity and impartiality in the work of the Council and opposes discriminatory and punitive approaches.
Only respectful dialogue and genuine cooperation, free from interference, can yield tangible results in the promotion and protection of human rights.

A useful and effective debate on the human rights situation in Ukraine and in any other nation demands an exercise free from selectivity and double standards.
Repeatedly resorting to the failed formula of imposing biased mechanisms to single out specific nations for political purposes only deepens confrontation and exacerbates differences between the parties. This in no way contributes to peace and conflict resolution, nor to the noble cause of human rights.

We reaffirm our support for those initiatives that advocate for a constructive, balanced, and realistic diplomatic solution to the current crisis in Ukraine, through peaceful means and with the participation of all parties involved. This should guarantee peace, security, and sovereignty for all, as well as the effective exercise of human rights.

Thank you very much.
