Mr. President,
The Cuban delegation reiterates its strongest condemnation of the criminal and irresponsible attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
No State has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of others, or to threaten or use force. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran and of all States must be respected.
The future of Iran can only be decided by the Iranian people themselves. No one else.
We regret that, once again, the report presented makes no mention whatsoever of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Iran, in clear violation of international law.
Any report on the situation in Iran that purports to be objective and impartial should call for the immediate removal of these measures, which affect the daily lives of millions of people and their access to basic goods and services, including food, medicines, water, healthcare, and transportation, among others.
The imposition of punitive and intrusive mechanisms without the consent of the States concerned, as is the case with Iran, has proven to be completely ineffective, as they have no real impact on the ground.
The only effective way to promote and protect human rights in all countries is through dialogue and cooperation, based on impartiality, mutual respect, and non-interference.
