Mr. President,
We thank the Special Rapporteur for presenting the report on the issue of denialism and revisionism concerning gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law.
The persistence of denialism poses a threat to the integrity, effectiveness, and sustainability of transitional justice.
The Cuban people know very well and have suffered directly, for more than six decades, the consequences of denialism.
Incredibly, and despite irrefutable evidence, the Government of the United States continues to deny that it imposes an economic, commercial, and financial blockade on Cuba.
That blockade has intensified to extreme levels in recent months, with the deliberate purpose of causing total suffocation of Cuban families. They seek to manufacture a humanitarian tragedy in order to destabilize the country and achieve their political objectives.
The US Government also disregards and denies the serious human rights violations suffered by the Cuban people as a result of this illegal and inhumane policy.
As was irrefutably demonstrated in the report of the Special Rapporteur discussed by the Council just a few days ago, the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States flagrantly, systematically, and massively violate the human rights of Cuban women and men, including the rights to food, health, education, development, and life.
The United States resorts to denialism in order to continue acting with complete impunity towards Cuba, violating the legitimate rights of the victims, including the right to reparation.
In response to denialism, Cuba will continue to systematically document these serious human rights violations against the Cuban people. Justice will prevail.
Thank you very much.
