Pretoria, May 20, 2019.-The Cuban residents in South Africa observe with great concern the aggressive manner in which the US government, led by Donald Trump, is undertaken the relations with our country of birth, particularly in the last period.
The new unilateral sanctions they have started to apply against Cuba seek to create hunger and despair in our people, in order to achieve political concessions.
The Association of Cuban Residents in South Africa reject the decision of Trump’s government to allow action to be taken in U.S. Courts against Cuban and foreign entities outside the United States jurisdiction; it decries the decision of hardening the obstacles to entering in US territory by managers and relatives of the companies which legally invest in Cuba, in properties that were nationalized; it repudiates the decision of limiting even more the remittances that Cuban residents in the U.S. send to relatives and kinship, to further restrict travels by U.S. citizens to Cuba, and applying additional financial sanctions against our country.
Likewise, we voice our opposition to the threats by President Trump of setting up a full blockade against Cuba.
We, Cuban residents in South Africa join Cuba’s call to all members of the international community and to all U.S. citizens, to stop the nonsensical escalade and the hostile and aggressive policy of Donald Trump’s government against Cuba. Our country has the right to live in peace.
The Cuban Revolution has the steadfast determination to face this aggressive escalade, and as always, our people, our relatives, will support, will resist and will overcome.
Long live to the Cuban people!
