STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA IN THE FACE OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT’S PLANS TO ESCALATE THE ECONOMIC WAR
Cuba is neither a danger nor a threat to the United States nor to any other country in the world; this is well known to the US government, its armed forces and intelligence agencies, which have frequently stated as much in their reports. The military doctrine of ‘war by the whole people’ is entirely defensive. Yes, our people will resist and defend themselves with all means at their disposal against any external aggression, regardless of the size or power of the enemy.
We strongly condemn the expansion of the criminal and ruthless economic, commercial and financial war waged by the US government against the Cuban people, as set out in the US government’s new Executive Order, which threatens to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies and impose arbitrary tariffs on countries that maintain legitimate trade relations with Cuba.
These measures violate international law and the regulations and norms of international trade that the United States and its allies have imposed on the world for decades, and are based solely on the military and economic might of the United States, which, of course, is always used against smaller and weaker countries.
These measures may cause irreparable harm to the people of Cuba, as well as many deaths and enormous unjustified suffering, which in no way benefit the American people nor make their government more respected or admired, but perhaps more feared and hated, especially in this hemisphere, and prove the Mexican dictator Porfirio Díaz right when he said prophetically: ‘So far from God and so close to the United States’
The international order that the current US administration seeks to establish is based on the law of the strongest, without considering that perhaps one day in the not too distant future that powerful empire may no longer be the strongest, as has happened before with other empires that believed themselves eternal.
The Revolutionary Government of Cuba has long expressed its willingness to hold discussions on any matter of mutual interest with the US authorities, on the basis of equality, mutual respect and without preconditions; that is Cuba’s position.
We call upon all those committed to social justice and human rights, upon all peoples, countries and organisations, especially in this hemisphere and in the United States, to oppose this new genocidal attempt, because we Cubans will fight; many of us believe, despite the unequal nature of the struggle, that we will prevail, but we may well die defending our independence and our sovereignty at the cost of our lives if that is what it takes; what is certain is that we will never again be a colony or slaves to anyone.
