The Communist Party of Ireland expresses our steadfast solidarity with our comrades in the Cuban Institue of Friendship with the Peoples, the Cuban Communist Party, and the Cuban people, in the wake of yet another failed attempt by the empire to destabilise Cuba.
The Cuban Revolution once again stands firm in the wake of external interference and attempts at regime change. In the revolutionary city of Santiago, revolutionary leaders engaged in dialogue with the people who expressed frustration with the current food and fuel crises. We are clear that these crises are direct results of the US blockade, in force for over 60 years.
In the words of the US government, the reason for the blockade is “denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation, and overthrow of government.”
The adding of Cuba to the US state sponsor of terrorism list is being used to further attack the Cuban economy. If the United States cared about the “human rights” of Cubans, they would cease their interference in Cuba, including the blocking of fuel, medical food supplies and their restrictions on the Cuban tourism industry Instead they have dedicated millions of dollars in support for fringe counter-revolutionaries, operating from Miami, who have as their objective destabilisation and terrorism against the Cuban government and people.
Their attempts at another July 11th have failed, as indeed all other attempts at overthrowing the Cuban revolution. The Revolution is defended by its people and will not be intimidated by gusanos and their allies in Miami and Washington, any more than it will be intimidated by the allies of counter-revolution in the likes of the European parliament.
With every attack, the solidarity movement with the Cuban people grows stronger and more determined to face down the empire. Where US imperialism can only provide destabilisation, destruction and terror, Cuban socialism sends doctors on internationalist missions in all continents, stands up for the people of Gaza and continues to stand on the right side of history. In the words of Irish revolutionary martyr, Terence MacSwiney, “It is not those who inflict the most but those who endure the most who will win.”
