Take your dirty and bloody hands off Cuba and the Cuban revolutionaries!
In recent months, U.S. imperialism, seeking to legitimize its aggression — which it has intensified through an oil blockade, new sanctions against the country’s institutions and leaders, and threats of military intervention — has added yet another baseless accusation to its fabricated charges. It has issued an absurd accusation against Raúl Castro, alleging that he ordered the shootdown of two U.S. civilian aircraft in 1996, causing the deaths of four people.
The U.S. government, having completely overstepped its bounds, has dared to lay hands on Raúl Castro, one of the historic leaders of the Cuban Revolution and a figure who still historically holds the title of Army General.
There is hardly any need to discuss the groundlessness of these accusations, made by the U.S. Department of Justice in a fit of anti-communist hysteria; we condemn the entire initiative from beginning to end.
The leadership of the Cuban Revolution has emerged with its head held high from the harshest trials of revolutionary history, tested and vindicated by history itself. It is unthinkable for anyone — least of all U.S. imperialism — to attempt to subject Raúl Castro, who assumed the most crucial responsibilities in such a historic struggle and earned an indelible place in the minds and hearts of the Cuban people as a hero of the revolution, to its so-called courts.
We know that every time the United States accuses Cuba of something, it is in fact the guilty party. Just as they tried to blame Cuban socialism for the energy crisis facing the country, they now seek to blame Cuba for the consequences of their own terrorist activities.
The aircraft shot down by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces in 1996 were not ordinary civilian planes. They belonged to Brothers to the Rescue, a counterrevolutionary group based in Miami and financed by the CIA.
Despite repeated detections and reports to the U.S. government regarding the illegal activities of organizations such as Brothers to the Rescue — which operated to incite the Cuban people to rebellion against the revolutionary government and violated Cuban airspace hundreds of times to broadcast radio programs, distribute propaganda leaflets, and even spread biological agents to poison Cuban agricultural lands — and despite repeated warnings ordering these activities to cease and informing them that the aircraft would be shot down if they continued, the U.S. government continued to support and encourage these organizations.
The Cuban people and the Cuban government have the right to defend their homeland against counterrevolutionary activities and terrorist attacks; Cuba has the right to defend its sovereignty. Through this absurd accusation, U.S. imperialism once again attacks Cuba’s right to self-defense and its sovereign rights.
By making such an accusation thirty years later, the United States is attempting to pave the way for military intervention against the country; to create a pretext for the ruthless kidnapping of the country’s leaders and the leaders of the revolution.
The Communist Party of Türkiye opposes all attacks against Cuba and will continue to do so. We support the Cuban people and their revolutionary leadership.
Long live the Cuban Revolution! Long live Raúl, the great hero of the revolution!
