Statement by the Cuban Alumni Association of Sri Lanka about the current situation of Cuba.
First, we Cuban graduates of Sri Lanka would like to state that, our beloved Cuban brothers, and sisters, you are not alone. We have been with you, and we will be with you in all the difficult situations.
Recently, we saw in the media that there are few small groups of Cubans who have started some protests in different cities of Cuba, and they have damaged government properties and violated government laws. We all are aware that almost all the countries in the world are impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic situation, and it has a massive hit on economics, health, and the sustainable development of all the countries. Now, Cuba is also confronting this pandemic situation as a third-world country. As an association, we condemn the violation and damaging of government properties.
There were many fake videos fabricated by different entities about these violations in different countries and published on social media. Last week we saw many false statements done by different groups and went viral to furbish a wrong idea about the actual situation of Cuba. We highly believe that some outsiders want to breach the peace of the loving Cuban families. From our point of view, the Cuban government is doing the best for their people. For an example, Cuba found 5 different vaccines as an antidote for Covid-19 and started to use them internally already. They planned to vaccinate all their population by the end of 2021, while some other so-called first world countries are dependent on other countries to get commercialized vaccines.
It has been 60 years since Cuba got sanctioned by the US government. This blockade becomes worse day by day to the Cuban government and population. Now it developed as the root cause for all this internal chaos according to the bottom-line analysis. We saw that some of the officials of the US government mentioned that the Cuban government should listen to their people. If this is the case, why does the US government not listen to the United Nation’s democratic voice of condemning the economic and commercial blockade against Cuba? We can see their actions are unilateral. It is high time to remove the sanctions to the loving Cuban families, and as graduated professionals, we humbly request from the US government to lift the blockade and leave the Cuban people in peace.
Today we saw in the news that the president of the United States of America is considering a humanitarian intervention in Cuba. We all know what happened after these interventions to beautiful nations like Libya, Iraq, and Syria. Hence, we condemn these considerations of US intervention in Cuba and let them handle their internal affairs as they have done during the past 60 years. We still believe that the revolution concepts of the great leader Fidel Castro are still in the hearts of our Cuban brothers and sisters, and the current Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, is guiding his nation forward with lots of difficulties due to the blockade.
We express our utmost solidarity with the Cuban people and the government. Cuba is not alone! Viva Cuba! Viva la Revolución Cubana! Abajo al bloqueo!
