Mr. President,
It is paradoxical, deeply concerning and unacceptable that, in an increasingly globalized world, xenophobia, racism, discrimination, hate speech and violence against migrants are rapidly increasing, particularly in developed countries.
Instead of recognizing and promoting the contribution of migrants as an active economic and social force, anti-immigrant policies are being advanced and stereotypes that marginalize them continue to be reinforced.
We observe with shame the violent and discriminatory treatment of migrants in the United States, as well as that country's politically motivated, racist policy of carrying out mass deportations of migrants, in flagrant violation of their human rights.
We also share the Special Rapporteur's concern regarding the growing practice of including children in deportations carried out by the United States to third countries. These deportations frequently take place after prolonged periods of detention under precarious conditions. These practices must come to an end.
Dialogue and cooperation are the only means to promote and ensure regular, orderly and safe migration, with full respect for the human rights of migrants.
Thank you.
